Think of Marbella, and what immediately springs to mind? Almost certainly one of the first things will be a sun-kissed beach with the sea gently lapping at the shore. Many people who visit only for a fortnight’s annual holiday would be surprised to find out that the shoreline is constantly changing. Forces such as the tides and weather patterns can alter the beach from one day to the next, which is why daily maintenance is a must during the high summer season when the heaviest influx of visitors arrives.
Many tourists and residents still love the beach out of peak season, however, and an announcement this week by Marbella Town Hall will see that they enjoy the beach in ideal conditions all year round. A contract was put to tender for beach maintenance 365 days of the year, including provision for winter when storms can carry much of the sand back to sea. Also included will be the cleaning of adjoining green zones, play and shower areas. All of this is an incentive to have a property in Marbella.
Such an initiative can only boost efforts to be awarded the coveted Q Award, a recognition of quality from the Spanish tourist board. An announcement was made at the end of 2017 that the Marbella Town Hall would be seeking the prestigious award for initially seven beaches in the area, La Salida, Nueva Andalucía, Puerto Banús, La Venus, El Faro and Cabopino, with the aim of eventually including all of Marbella’s beaches.
The Q for Quality awards are bestowed according to compliance with UNE 187001, regulations that relate to tourism. The regulations stipulate facilities that should be available, services provided such as cleaning, security, lifeguards, information and other factors that make visiting the beach an enjoyable experience.
